Summer in Japan isn’t complete without beautiful fireworks lighting up the night sky.
Among the many fireworks festivals held across the country, the Sumida River Fireworks
Festival stands out with its spectacular display of 20,000 fireworks.
If you're lucky enough to see it, it could be the highlight of your summer.
Held annually on the last Saturday of July

The event will be canceled in case of stormy weather.

The fireworks can generally be seen within a 500m to 2km radius from the launch sites.
Although fireworks can be viewed from the Sumida River, note that areas outlined in red will
be off-limits on the day of the event.
Here are some popular and lesser-known recommended viewing spots.
The Sumida River Terrace is a riverside promenade stretching along both sides of the
Sumida River.
It’s about a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Station.
The path continues for about 36 km from Asakusa downstream, offering views of historic
bridges and traditional houseboats.
Note that it can get very crowded on the day of the fireworks.
Viewing the fireworks from the observation deck requires an online reservation.
Tickets are lottery-based and applications typically open from late May.

Popular for cherry blossoms in spring and as a hidden gem for viewing fireworks in
summer.
Expect people to reserve spots early on the event day. Food stalls will also be
available, adding to the festive atmosphere.
